Hilltop 2024 Day 1
We've had a great start to our year 6 residential. After a remarkably calm coach trip, the children had a quick tour of the facilities and lunch, then it was straight into our first activity. We have been split into two groups and the children have already begun to make friends with children from Stradbroke and Fressingfield schools.
Group1 spent the afternoon learning about Bushcraft. They scavenged for wood, made a fire, boiled water for hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows. This was followed with den building for 'Bendy Bob' a small toy which needed a home. The dens were superb with a lot of team work and creativity on show despite the rain!
Group 2 meanwhile were challenging themselves on the Air Jump. Even the lowest platform is still quite a challenge so it was fantastic to see everyone succeed in this. Then is was back down to earth with a very wet and muddy Assault Course. I think the children enjoyed it all the more because of the mud.
A fantastic roast chicken dinner and apple crumble gave everyone the energy for an exciting game of Enchanted Forest before retuning to rooms for much needed showers.
Everyone is now in bed and although some are not quite asleep yet it is calm and everyone is happy and looking forward to tomorrow. Its been a pleasure to spend the day with them, their excellent behaviour and attitude has been noticed by other staff and I am sure that they'll have a great day tomorrow.
